Vaginal birth or caesarean: what was prepared with you, not decided without you.

The birth is prepared during the last months of pregnancy: vaginal birth or caesarean, epidural analgesia, how you would like it to go, and the situations that can change the plan. On the day, nothing is done that has not been talked through with you beforehand.

Advice

• Get your hospital bag and your documents (file, blood group card, test results) ready from the eighth month.
• Come to the clinic if you have regular contractions, if your waters break or if you bleed.
• A birth plan, even a short one, is worth writing down and discussing in advance.

FAQ

Is a caesarean decided in advance?

Sometimes yes, when there is an indication before term. Otherwise, it is only offered if the course of labour makes it necessary - and the reason is explained to you.

Is an epidural routine?

No. It is offered, never imposed, and the eighth-month anaesthetic consultation is a chance to talk it through calmly.

And after the birth?

A postnatal consultation is arranged in the following weeks: healing, perineum, contraception, tiredness, and everything that has changed.
