Fertility work-up

A work-up for both partners, tests in the right order, and a clear referral if one is needed.

When a pregnancy is slow to come, the fertility work-up looks for a cause rather than offering empty reassurance: cycles and ovulation, tubal patency, ovarian reserve, and your partner's work-up - because one cause in two comes from him. The tests are requested in an order that avoids repetition, and referral for assisted reproduction is offered when it becomes the right step.

Advice

FAQ

At what point should you come?

The average wait for a pregnancy is several months. A work-up is justified after a year of regular trying, after six months if you are over 35, or sooner if there is a known history.

Does my partner need to be there?

Ideally yes, at least at the first consultation: the work-up and the decisions concern the couple.

Is assisted reproduction carried out at the practice?

The work-up, ovulation monitoring and simple stimulation are provided here. When IVF becomes the indicated step, you are referred to a specialist centre, with your complete file.
