The pelvic ultrasound scan examines the uterus, the ovaries and the endometrium. Performed at the practice during the consultation, it avoids an extra appointment and a waiting time: the result is discussed with you straight away, not passed on later by someone else.

Advice

• A full bladder improves the image via the suprapubic route; the transvaginal route does not need it.
• The examination is painless and requires neither fasting nor stopping any treatment.
• It can be performed at any point in the cycle, unless you are told otherwise during the consultation.

FAQ

Abdominal route or transvaginal route?

The route is chosen according to what is being looked for and according to your situation. The transvaginal route gives more precise images of the uterus and the ovaries; it is never imposed.

Is the result given straight away?

Yes. The scan is performed and discussed during the consultation, with the report handed to you at the end.
