A loss of tone in the vaginal walls, most often after one or more vaginal deliveries.
The vagina is made to adapt - but that adaptation does not always resolve on its own.
Vaginal laxity is a loss of tone and elasticity in the vaginal walls, which can become more slack and less firm than before.
Vaginal delivery, particularly when repeated or with a large baby, is the most frequent cause. Age, the menopause and genetics (the quality of the connective tissue) also contribute.
This laxity can reduce sensation during intercourse, for both partners, and is sometimes accompanied by a feeling of heaviness. There is nothing abnormal about it, and it can be corrected when it persists beyond natural healing.
